There are things that seem unnecessary—until you go on a two-week vacation and start calling your friends to ask them to just stop by and feed your fish. Xiaomi, as we’ve come to realize, knows this group of people well and has released the Mijia Smart Fish Tank 2 Pro just for them.
This is the company’s second-generation smart aquarium, and the key point is that the aquarium takes care of this task, which most people find a real pain.
The automatic aquarium operates on a schedule that you set yourself. You can feed the fish manually right from your smartphone by tapping a button in the Mi Home app. If the feeder doesn’t work or something goes wrong, the system will send you a notification on its own. I think that’s really cool)))
They’ve placed a 1.47-inch color screen on the front panel. It displays the water temperature, equipment status, and alerts.
Through Mi Home, you can remotely adjust the pump speed, view temperature trends over a period of time, and customize the lid’s backlight. It supports the Xiao Ai voice assistant, which lets you control the lighting with voice commands.
Here’s a feature Ukrainians will appreciate: the aquarium can be powered by a standard power bank via USB. Even during a power outage, the pump and filtration system will continue to operate.
The most interesting thing about this model isn’t the “smart” features, but the hydraulics.
Xiaomi has redesigned the circulation system so that water flows through the layers of filter media in a precise sequence, without backflow or “dead zones” where the current simply circles around. A U-shaped water channel has been created in the biological compartment: the water takes a longer path and remains in contact longer with beneficial bacteria, which break down the fish’s waste products.
The filter box has a layered structure that physically separates excrement and uneaten food, while several layers of synthetic fiber trap fine particles and quickly remove them from the main chamber.
It sounds boring, but this is exactly where 90% of home aquariums fall short. The pump features a brushless motor: it’s quieter and more durable than the ones typically found in budget aquariums.
The volume has been increased to 31 liters, and the shape has been made more elongated—greater volume means more stable water parameters, and the elongated shape provides a wider view. The glass is clear, without the characteristic greenish tint along the edges.
