I will start by destroying half of the articles on the Internet on this topic. Instagram doesn't pay you for views. Not for a thousand, not for a million. In Ukraine, direct payments for Reels views are not accrued, and official monetization programs are not available to everyone and are constantly changing. Reels Play Bonus, which did pay per view, closed back in 2023. What is currently online under the guise of «tariffs for 1000 views» is either outdated information or data from other countries.
Many Ukrainian users with a Creator account simply do not see the monetization option in the settings, because the function is not available in the region. So where does the money come from?
Real sources of income
Instagram is not a platform that pays authors every day, it doesn't work that way, here you sell something to people and get paid for it. The difference is fundamental, and it is not understood by most people who «start a blog to earn».
1. Advertising from brands. The main channel for most. The brand pays you to mention its product.
2. Own goods or services. The most stable option. You don't depend on whether the advertiser comes.
3. Affiliate programs. You get a percentage of the sales from your link.
4. Instagram Gifts. Virtual gifts for Reels that convert into money — mechanics are similar to donates on streams. This function is available in Ukraine. But you should not count on it as the main income: it works only where there is a loyal community, and the amounts are usually symbolic.
5. Paid subscriptions. Exclusive content for subscribers. Availability in Ukraine is unstable, check in your account settings.
How much they actually pay
Here I want to warn you: the market is completely unregulated. Each blogger sets a price based on their own ambition, number of followers and engagement. The spread of grades is huge, and I will give it honestly, with disagreements.
Microbloggers up to 10,000 followers. They often work for barter - that is, for a product or service instead of money. Cash rates for the story fluctuate very widely: some sources call $100–300, others give a benchmark of about UAH 400 for a 10,000 active audience. The difference is times, and it's real: it all depends on the niche and how skillfully you negotiate.
10,000 - 100,000 followers. The average price tag for advertising reaches approximately $100 per placement.
Millionaire bloggers. From UAH 40,000 for advertising.
Top Ukrainian bloggers. A couple of stories from the most expensive Instagram bloggers in the country cost the advertiser about UAH 80,000, and Reels - up to UAH 250,000. This is the top of the market, several dozen people for the whole country.
For example, blogger Slava Demin estimated his net income from digital advertising at $5,000-10,000. Another example from the same material is that on YouTube it is possible to receive UAH 15-40 thousand for advertising, and the blogger himself considers it extremely small. That is, even for people with a large audience, incomes vary by an order of magnitude depending on the niche.
How many followers are needed
An answer that no one likes: there is no fixed threshold. The coincidence of the topic and the trust of the audience are more important. Moreover, the trend of recent years is against large accounts. Brands are increasingly choosing nano and microbloggers, because the content itself and the reaction to the product are important to them, not the number in the profile. The reason is simple, engagement drops with size. The normal figure for a blog for 500 followers is about 15%. For 5000, approximately 7%. For a millionaire up to 3%.
That is, an account for 5,000 live followers in a narrow niche can sell better than a hundred thousand with a blurred audience. And cost the advertiser cheaper. So don't chase after the quantity. Screwed subscribers are not just useless - they actively harm, because they kill the percentage of engagement that the advertiser looks at before buying.
What is not written about: taxes
A section not found in 90% of articles on the subject, although it is critical. If you systematically receive income from a blog, this is a systematic activity, which means that for regular income you need to register a sole proprietorship. The majority of bloggers choose the third group of the single tax - 5% on turnover plus SSC. Or the second group, if you work with individuals and the turnover is smaller. Without registration, income is taxed at the rate of 18% of personal income tax plus 5% of the military levy - that is, significantly more.
A separate nuance: if money comes to the individual's card in regular payments from different senders, the bank can request an explanation of the origin of the funds according to the rules of financial monitoring.
And also: money from foreign advertisers or affiliate programs — is currency income with its own registration rules. I am not a lawyer or a tax consultant, so a specific scheme should be discussed with an accountant. But you can't ignore this part - from a certain turn, it becomes the most expensive mistake in the whole story.
What doesn't work
Screwing followers. Engagement spoils, and advertisers see it right away through analytics services. The audience should be alive, not twisted - this is the first thing they look at when buying advertising.
Waiting for «magic monetization button». She is not there. Instagram is not about starting a page and fasting something.
Content in the style of «buy-buy-buy». The subscriber's path has a cumulative effect, and constant direct sales break it.
Where to start realistically
Determine exactly what you will sell before you start gaining an audience. I will not «dial followers, but I will understand» there. First the offer, then the audience for it. Choose a narrow topic in which you have real experience. A narrow niche of 3,000 followers monetizes better than a blurry lifestyle of 30,000. Publish regularly. This is the most boring advice on the list and at the same time the one on which the majority is pouring. Work with engagement: respond to comments, broadcast. It's not about civility, it's a direct influence on the number the advertiser is looking at. Take the first collaborations for barter. This is how a portfolio is formed, with which you can already ask for money.
Summary
Instagram does not pay for content. It gives access to the audience, and money comes from the other side - from brands, from the sale of one's own product, from affiliate programs. This means that making money on Instagram is a normal business in which the blog acts as a showcase. With all related things: product, negotiations, taxes and a long period before the first money. People who don't understand this usually drop out in the third month when followers seem to be there and there is no money. Because subscribers never become money by themselves.
