Articles about earning money on this platform regularly mention a creator rewards program with payments of approximately $100–$2,000 per month, while some sources even refer to a fund that supposedly shares advertising revenue in a way similar to video platforms. No such program exists. Pinterest launched a single direct payment scheme that paid creators for producing content based on monthly themes, and it was shut down on November 30, 2022. No replacement was introduced. The platform has neither advertising revenue sharing, nor payments for views, nor an equivalent of an affiliate program.
Materials that describe these payments as currently available are mostly AI-generated content published on websites that sell related services, so their figures should not be trusted.
Why the Absence of Payments Is a Design Choice, Not a Drawback
Pinterest operates not as a social network, but as a visual search engine. This results in two characteristics that other platforms do not have. The first is the lifespan of content. A post in a social media feed lives for hours, while a pin on this platform continues to bring people for months and years because users find it through search. The second is audience intent. People come here to plan purchases, renovations, trips, or celebrations, meaning they are already inclined to do or buy something. Therefore, the platform does not pay you for views but provides traffic with high purchase intent, and your earnings are generated outside the platform itself.
The Figure That Determines the Strategy for Ukrainians
Here is the data published by the platform itself, and it explains everything. According to the report for the second quarter of 2026, average revenue per user was $1.86 globally, but $8.30 in the United States and Canada, $1.35 in Europe, and only $0.23 in the rest of the world, with 640 million monthly active users. Ukraine belongs to the last category. The practical conclusion is clear. An audience from our region is worth approximately 36 times less than a North American audience, so working with a Ukrainian audience on this platform makes no economic sense. In other words, if you consider this platform a source of income, your content must be in English and targeted at a Western audience. This is both a barrier and an advantage, since you compete in a market with higher rates without being tied to your place of residence.
Five Methods That Actually Work
The first and main method is affiliate programs. You publish a pin with an affiliate link and receive a percentage of purchases. The platform allows direct affiliate links, and this is a fundamental difference between it and most social networks. The second method is driving traffic to your own website and then monetizing it through advertising or affiliate programs. I wrote separately about the economics of an advertising-supported website, and the main problem there was precisely traffic, which this platform provides. The third method is selling your own digital products, such as templates, planners, and printable materials. This creates a natural connection with marketplaces for handmade and digital products, which I have also written about, since the most popular topics overlap. The fourth method is advertising integrations with brands. According to market estimates, payments range from approximately $100 to $5,000 per pin, depending on the audience, while a separate format involves transferring your themed board to a brand for one month for approximately $500–$3,000. The fifth method is account management services for businesses, since Western companies actively use the platform and look for specialists.
Which Topics Work
The platform has a distinct audience profile, and it is worth entering the areas where that audience already exists. Interior design and home decor, cooking and recipes, fashion and style, weddings and celebrations, crafts, planning and organization, self-care, and travel perform best. Narrow technical topics, news, politics, and anything that does not have a visual expression perform poorly. The logic is simple: if your topic cannot be turned into an attractive image, this platform is not suitable for you.
How Much Time It Takes
Realistic benchmarks look like this. The first three months are spent building a library of pins and content, and income during this period is close to zero. From the fourth to the sixth month, noticeable traffic begins to appear, reaching tens of thousands of visits per month with consistent work. From the seventh month onward, income begins to emerge, with its amount depending on the monetization method. This is a slower start than on video platforms, but the results last longer because old content continues to work.
About Income Figures from Other Sources
Caution is needed here. Tables showing creator earnings circulate online, with figures ranging from several hundred to tens of thousands of dollars per month. The problem is that these figures come from the same websites that describe a nonexistent payment program, meaning they cannot be verified. The only reliable general observation is confirmed by all sources: creators with high incomes almost always have either a large catalog of digital products or a website with substantial traffic behind them. In other words, the platform itself does not generate income; it amplifies what you already have.
How This Differs from Other Platforms
The number of followers matters much less here than elsewhere. Income correlates with the number of impressions and the share of people who click on a link, rather than with audience size. The practical consequence is that an account with a small number of followers but well-optimized pins can drive more traffic than an account with a large audience and weak content. Another conclusion follows from this: you need to grow not your follower count, but the quantity and quality of your content, since each pin works independently through search.
Who Is This Suitable For?
It is suitable for those who already have a website, online store, or digital products and are looking for a source of traffic. For those who work in visual niches. For those who are ready to write in English for a Western audience. For those who are considering a time horizon of six months or more. It is not suitable for those looking for quick income, those targeting a Ukrainian audience, or those expecting direct payments from the platform.
Summary
The platform does not pay creators anything and has no direct payment program, since its only such scheme was shut down at the end of 2022, and materials describing it as currently active are inaccurate. Instead, it provides traffic with high purchase intent and a long lifespan, while your income is generated outside the platform through affiliate programs, your own products, or a website. For Ukrainian creators, the key point is that average revenue per user in our region is approximately $0.23 per quarter, compared with $8.30 in North America, meaning that working on the platform makes sense only in English and with a Western audience.
